Basic Medical Terminology

This course covers the origin, correct spelling, pronunciation, meaning, and correct usage of common medical terms and their application to clinical records and reports. It emphasizes the roots, prefixes, suffixes, medical abbreviations, symbols, and terms commonly used in medical records.

Instructor notes: This is a fun and intensive course. For any on-line asynchronous course, a student must be extremely self-motivated and independent in his or her learning. With online classes you literally have to “show up”, sit yourself down, read assignments, and participate. In some cases, it may take more of your time. If you were taking this class on campus, you would be spending 3 hours per week in class and then additional hours for each hour studying on your own. For this online class, please expect to spend approximately 10 or more hours per week in order to successfully complete the course. If you are accepted from the waitlist, you will need to have the required textbook to start immediately. A delay in taking the quiz due to not having a textbook will result in an automatic dropping of the class.
