Calculus with Applications

This course relates calculus to real-world applications in social science, economics, and business. Topics include an algebra review, graphing, limits, derivatives of polynomials of one variable, maxima and minima, integration, derivatives of logarithmic and exponential functions, development of integration techniques, an introduction to multi-variable calculus, and their application to problems. This course is designed primarily for students majoring in social science, economics, and business who require calculus and is not recommended for mathematics, physical science, engineering, or biological science majors. UC CREDIT LIMITATION: Credit for MATH 115, MATH 150, or MATH 150H.

Instructor notes: After enrolling, go to http://blackboard.miracosta.edu and log in using your surf ID and password. Go to homepage for this course (Math 115) and click on "Announcements" to find information regarding class and how to purchase and log into required course software, MyMathLab(MML). MML comes with e-textbook (students are NOT required to buy printed textbook). Students may be dropped if they do not purchase and log into MML by first day of class or within 24 hours of enrolling if after first day of class.This class is taught online using MyMathLab. Students study on their own and turn in assignments online. Students will be required to take 3 on-campus paper/pencil exams proctored at Academic proctoring Center (APC). Students residing outside the county may take the exams at APC approved proctoring center. Please see APC's website for more information regarding this. Click on "Syllabus" button on homepage of blackboard to read syllabus before you register with MyMathLab (MML). Enrolled students will be emailed once the class is set up on blackboard and MML. Expect to spend 10-12 hours per week for this course.
