MiraCosta College has been named one of the top places to work by the U-T San Diego.

The award was based upon responses to a survey completed by about 500 MiraCosta College employees and distributed by Pennsylvania-based WorkplaceDynamics. Among the responses:
  • Senior managers “are considerate of the employees while pursuing the best for employees;”
  • “The all around emphasis is to do what’s right and to support each other. This comes from the top.”
  • “Everything is done with efficiency and grace. The level of organizational management is remarkable and incredibly effective. Because of the dedication of the faculty, students don’t fall through the cracks;”
  • “MiraCosta values excellent ideas. New or old, an excellent idea is often supported to fruition. Ideas are shared within departments, with deans, on committees… An excellent idea has a good chance of influencing operations at MiraCosta;”
  • Senior managers  “are very hard workers and they do the best for students and workers.”
Sheri Wright, MiraCosta College’s Human Resources director, said she was encouraged by the results.

“What’s interesting about it is that this is based solely on feedback from our employees,” Wright said.

MiraCosta College was compared to some 30 colleges and universities and the responses of employees resulted in the college being named a Top Workplace.

“The environment here is a positive and supportive one,” Wright added. “I’m proud to be part of an organization that puts so much into its mission and into its employees.”

U-T San Diego contracted with WorkplaceDynamics to craft its Top Workplaces in 2013, the results of which were announced Nov. 8.
