Professional Development
Classified
There are a variety of professional development and training opportunities available for classified staff. The Classified Senate has professional development committees which both coordinate programs offered on campus "(internal") and approve requests for employees to obtain training off campus ("external", formerly known as the travel committee). More detailed information can be found on the Senate's website.
Faculty
The Professional Development Program (PDP) or Flex offers employees a comprehensive and systematic program of services and activities designed to foster staff, student, and instructional improvement by leveraging the reflective vision of participants. The Flex program is managed by the faculty PDP committee. Detailed information can be found on their website.
Business Training Library (BTL)
Another method of obtaining training for all regular MiraCosta employees is through the Business Training Library. It offers over a thousand courses (DVDs and CD-ROM) which can be checked out and viewed to enhance professional skills and knowledge. Topics include Communication, Customer Service, Desktop Computer Skills, Ethics, Leadership, Project Management Strategic Planning, Team Building, Time Management and Workplace Health & Safety, You may view the video individually or your department may find information relevant for the entire group.
The process is easy!
- Review the Course Listings (at the very bottom of the page there is a heading of "Topics".Click on the orange link that says “Business Skills Lending Library”). Once you find a video you'd like to check out,
- Fill out a Request Form.
- Upon receiving the approval of your supervisor, send the form to Elia Valdovinos at MS14 or by email.
- Shortly thereafter you will receive an e-mail indicating the availability of the course and when the course will be sent to you.
- Employees are responsible for returning courses to Elia.
