Our work is organized around five stations on
our vessel. Each station is designed to
collect and analyze a particular type of oceanographic data.
1) Secchi Disk Station: Water clarity and color (relates
to the types of plankton present and their abundance)
2) Plankton
Station: Phytoplankton
and zooplankton living in the euphotic zone
3) Seawater
Properties Station: Oxygen content, salinity, pH, and temperature
sampled at 10-meter intervals from the surface down to 40 or 50 meters
4) Benthic
Station: Study of
organisms living on the seabed
5) Fish
Station: Classification
of bottom-dwelling fish species
This figure shows the location of each station on the Sea Explorer (©Ocean Institute).
