Barbara Sawrey

Barbara Sawrey is the Associate Vice Chancellor of Undergraduate Education and a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UC San Diego. She received her B.S. in chemistry from Baldwin-Wallace College, and then worked as an industrial chemist for a number of years. She earned her Master's degree from San Diego State University and her Ph.D. in physical inorganic chemistry jointly from UC San Diego and SDSU. She has been on the faculty of UC San Diego since 1984. She has won a number of teaching awards on campus and was the 2002 recipient of the national American Chemical Society Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences, and the 2011 recipient of the Pinnacle Award for an Individual in Education, from Athena, San Diego. She is on the Board of Publications for the Journal of Chemical Education, the Board of Governors of The San Diego Foundation, and the Board of Directors of the American Chemical Society.

Pam Brown

Pamela Brown is currently serving as a Program Director for the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE).  Programs that she works with include Advanced Technological Education (ATE), Math and Science Partnerships (MSP), Transforming Undergraduate Education in STEM (TUES) and the STEM Talent Expansion Program (STEP). She is on leave from her position as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at New York City College of Technology - CUNY (City Tech), a position she held from 2005 to 2011. In that capacity she was the PI or co-PI on five NSF funded grants, totaling over $3 million. She developed an undergraduate research program, the Emerging Scholars Program, which supports faculty scholarship and provides research opportunities for over 70 students a year. She has been on the Chemistry faculty at City Tech since 1998 and served as Program Coordinator in 2004-5.  A chemical engineer by training, Dean Brown earned a PhD from Polytechnic University, an SM from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BS in chemistry, summa cum laude, from SUNY Albany. She has published in Science Education and Civic Engagement: An International Journal, Journal of Chemical Education, American Laboratory, Woman Engineer, Chemical Engineering Education, Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research and American Institute of Chemical Engineering Journal.
