“People who don’t have the skills will be left behind as jobs take on more responsibility. Everything you do depends on reading and speaking well. You can’t always rely on others to tell you what things to say. Everyone has to take responsibility for themselves and their own education.”
-Jean Scott, Housekeeper, University of Maryland Medical Center
Vocational English as a Second Language focuses on developing the communication skills employees will need to function more effectively in their jobs. In all cases, we teach terminology and phrasing specific to your organizational needs. We also include valuable customer service and even company culture components.
For employers wishing to start as a VESL class at their worksite, we recommend a class series that is typically 30 hours of instruction over a 2 – 4 month period of time. Lunchtime ESL classes work really well!
We tailor our VESL program to your needs. We can offer beginning ESL all the way through more advanced levels. We also have accent reduction training that we can provide either at your workplace or at the college(see Spring course below). Students will receive a Certificate of Accomplishment for any VESL coursework completed.
Learn advanced pronunciation skills for the workplace. This course is designed for adult foreign-born students with advanced conversational skills who wish to improve their ability in the general American speech pattern.
