Community Education Classes
MiraCosta College Surf Team
The office of Community Services partners with Student Services to provide competitive surfing for MiraCosta College students. Coach Rich Langen works with experienced surfers to train and compete in meets sponsored by the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA).
To participate on the NSSA team, surfers are required to register for Surf Team, a class offered by MiraCosta College’s Community Education department. Cost of the class is $30. To register, contact Community Education at 760.795.6820.
To qualify for NSSA competition, students must:
- Pay their own annual NSSA membership fee of $100 (The college will pay for League, State and National entry fees)
- Be a high school graduate
- Be registered for a minimum of two academic classes (6 units) at MiraCosta College
- Have a minimum 2.0 GPA (entering freshman may use high school GPA)
The Surf Team class is open to experienced surfers 18 years of age or older who want to learn about competitive surfing.
