CTE Transitions (formerly known as Tech Prep)
Students can embark on their college and career journey while still in high school , saving time and money. Through CTE Transitions, MiraCosta College faculty and local high school instructors enter into Articulation Agreements that provide the opportunity for a student to simultaneously earn high school and college credit.
High school teachers submit their course information for review by college faculty who look for course alignment, rigor, and courses that are part of strong career pathways. An agreement must be renewed every two years.
In order for the student to receive credit with MiraCosta College, he or she must:
- Submit a MiraCosta College Admissions Application for the Spring term
- Register for their class using our online CATEMA system
- Earn an A or B in the course and on their final exam, project, or portfolio
- Be recommended for credit by their teacher
Grades below a B are not eligible for credit, and they will not appear on a student's MiraCosta College transcrip. Credit is applied to the students' MiraCosta College transcripts one semester after finishing the high school course.
CTE Transitions programs are funded by the California Department of Education, Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006.
