Governance

Online Education at MiraCosta College is integrated into the governance system in multiple ways. The Academic Affairs Committee is responsible for the development of 3-year Online Education Plans. The Courses & Programs Committee is responsible for AP 4105, the administrative procedure on distance education, and its associated Courses & Programs Curriculum Committee is responsible for curricular approval of distance education courses. MiraCosta Online Educators is an Academic Senate committee which provides advice and counsel to the Academic Senate and MiraCosta community on varied matters related to online education, with particular regard to the 10+1 areas of Academic Senate primacy.

The Online Education program provides an annual report to the Board of Trustees. You may view past presentations (PPT):

Accreditation

Please see MiraCosta College's accreditation website which includes many important accreditation-related documents, many of which include distance education-related information. Especially important documents include 2009 and 2014 Substantive Change Proposals for Distance Education. MiraCosta College's full accreditation visit in 2016 resulted in full reaccreditation for the college, with no Distance Education-related recommendations. The 2016 Institutional Self-Evaluation Report integrated Distance Education reporting throughout the document (see a guide to all DE references in the document if interested) in accordance with current ACCJC standards.

You may wish to review the slides from an August 2016 presentation on what faculty should know about accreditation and distance education, by Chris Hill (MiraCosta's Accreditation Liaison Officer) and Jim Julius (Faculty Director of Online Education).
