Art Orientation

This basic art appreciation course introduces world art forms, techniques, traditions, and aesthetics. It emphasizes both western and world art in historical and cultural contexts. Students examine visual artworks related to mortality and immortality, sustenance and survival, sexuality and gender, power and politics, and race and class. Students are required to visit a local public artwork or museum/gallery.

Emphasis will be placed on surveying both western and world art. This Class is o B ered as an online class. We will be using Blackboard as our course management system. The Class is Asynchronously organized. Each week a distinct module will be covered and assigned work due on a weekly basis. Please know that the textbook is but one of the sources I will draw upon to teach this class. I will add and include other readings , videos and artwork over the course of the 6 weeks. Class Blog: We will use as our class blog site. I will divide the class section into five groups of seven. I will email each of you a group assignment. Each week there will be a Blog topic ( from week one to 4)that you are required to write on and also you will be required to respond to at least one of your colleagues posts. If possible provide an photo of yourself as your blog id- or other image that says something about you.
