Elementary Spanish (First Semester)

This introductory course develops Spanish language acquisition through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It covers basic Spanish pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar. It also explores the history, geography, and customs of the Spanish-speaking world. This course corresponds to the first two years of high school Spanish.

Instructor notes: If you sign up for this class online because you don't have time to take a class right now, then you really shouldn't take a class. Online classes take as many hours as an on-site class, if not more. This is not a self-paced class. On the contrary, to get you through the 16 weeks successfully, it follows a strict schedule. To be successful, you'll need to spend at the very least 12 hours per week on this class. If you were taking this course on campus, you would have to attend 4.5 hours of class, plus 8 hours outside of class to practice, study and do homework. The equivalent to those in class hours for an online student is spending 4.5 hours studying the text, watching all of the tutorials and videos, sometimes twice to make sure that you have understood. The other 8 hours should be spent studying, working on the workbook and lab manual, the voice recordings or blog, and the quizzes.
