Health Education

The Health Education Program offers courses for students planning to transfer in a variety of health-related fields as well as for students needing to fulfill general education requirements (Health 101 and 101L meet the requirement for MiraCosta's Career and Technical Education AA degrees). Career opportunities include teaching; health care administration; federal, state and local health care agencies such as county Health Department, Cal OSHA, Environmental Protection Agency; and health care and education in the private sector.

To apply for a Certificate of Achievement, complete the Petition for Certificate of Achievement form and turn it in to the Admissions and Records Office by the deadline noted in the catalog. Admissions and Records is located in Building 3300 at the Oceanside Campus, 760.795.6620 or in the Administration Building at the San Elijo Campus, 760.634.7870.

To apply for a certificate of proficiency, complete the Certificate Application and turn it in to Daria Davis in OC 4818 on the Oceanside Campus.

Information about Additional Certifications:

Personal Fitness: Upon completion of the Personal Fitness Trainer certificate program, students may consider sitting for the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), and National Council Strength & Fitness (NCSF) national certification exams.

Massage Therapy: The MiraCosta College Massage Therapy certificates satisfy the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) and National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (MCTMB) requirements to be certified as a Massage Therapist. Based upon the medical model, the program requires knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, pathology, massage and bodyuwork assessment, thoery and application, including in-class and supervised practice, and business and ethics. Graduates of the program will be prepared to take the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx) to receive CAMTC certification.

Yoga: The Yoga Instructor 200-hour certificate program prepares students to meet the requirements for Yoga Alliance to become a 200-hour registered yoga teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance. The Yoga Instructor 300-hour certificate prepares students to meet the requirements to become a 500-hour registered teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance. Read the instructions about applying for the MiraCosta Yoga Instructor (200-Hours) Certfiicate of Proficiency and Yoga Alliance Registration for RYT 200. For students who are already RYT 200, read the instructions about applying for the MiraCosta Yoga Instructor (300-Hours) Certificate of Achievement and Yoga Alliance Registration for RYT 500.
