Short-Term, Fee-Based Study
A variety of short-term language workshops are offered through Community Services and Business Development at MiraCosta.
The English Language and College Skills Institute (EL&CSI) provides international students the opportunity to increase their English language proficiency and develop the skills needed for success in a college or university in the United States. The EL&CSI provides intensive, individualized instruction in small classes. Dedicated professional faculty and state-of-the-art computer software facilitate learning.
Instructional components include:
- TOEFL preparation
- Integrated academic preparation in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar
- Study of United States culture
- Computer literacy
- Development of study skills
Eight-week sessions are offered five times a years. Students may attend multiple sessions.
Community (Continuing) Education offers short-term, not-for-credit language classes in various languages. These classes generally meet two hours a week for eight weeks an dare intended to serve travelers.
The Business Development Program, which provides customized training workshops for local business and industry, offers language improvement classes for employers wishing to strengthen employee language skills. The most requested classes are English as a Second Language (ESL) and Conversational Spanish. The Business Development Program is prepared to deliver these and a variety of other language and business writing classes to organizations on site or on campus.
