History of the Chinese in San Diego the Subject of Lecture 
at MiraCosta College

MiraCosta College is celebrating the Chinese New Year this February with a number of free cultural activities and events. This year, the college is proud to present a lecture by author Murray K. Lee, entitled “In Search of Gold Mountain: A History of the Chinese in San Diego
,” based on his book of the same name. 

Lee, curator of the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum, will present the lecture,
 which will focus on how the Chinese community developed in 20th century San Diego. A book singing will be held at the conclusion of the presentation.

The lecture will be given twice: Friday, February 1, 1 p.m., in Room 201 at MiraCosta College’s San Elijo Campus, located at 3333 Manchester Avenue, Cardiff; and Wednesday, February 13, 3 p.m., in the Student Center Club Room, at MiraCosta College’s Oceanside Campus, located at 1 Barnard Drive. Admission is free.

Other Chinese New Year events scheduled include Chinese storytelling, a traditional Lion Dance, a dumpling workshop, a paper cutting/book fair, and a screening of the Chinese film, “Last Train Home.”
