MiraCosta College Nursing Program Announces 100% Licensure

MiraCosta College is proud to announce that 100% of the college’ s last two graduating classes of registered nursing students, a total of 49 students, have passed the NCLEX-RN exam. A nursing graduate is required to pass the NCLEX test (National Council Licensure Examination) to practice nursing in the U.S. The test evaluates the knowledge, skills and abilities essential for the safe and effective practice of nursing.

“Although our pass rates have always been high, 93-100%, our goal is 100%, which we have reached several times. And even more importantly, our attrition rate is less than 18%,” said Sandy Comstock, associate dean of Nursing and Health. “This speaks highly for the dedicated faculty and instructional associates in the nursing program.”

Nursing faculty have held extra tutoring sessions, lifelike scenarios with the simulation manikins, and skills-a-thons. Each student is evaluated every eight weeks and given an individual educational plan for achievement.
The national average pass rate for 2013 so far is 84.91% for those with associate degrees.

In addition to the R.N. program, MiraCosta College Allied Health Occupations Department offers career and transfer programs in Licensed Vocational Nursing, an LVN to R.N. career ladder program, and certified nursing assistant and home health aid programs

The MiraCosta College R.N. program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
