MiraCosta College Offers Late-Start Classes

MiraCosta College’s spring semester began on January 13, but the college’s San Elijo Campus in Cardiff and the Oceanside Campus have many late-start course offerings that begin the week of January 27. Classes are available daytime, evening or online.

Students can take classes that fulfill transfer requirements, choosing from a variety of career and technical courses, including: 
 
Critical Thinking, Composition and Literature (ENGL 201) 4 units (#3394) 
M/W, 2-4:05 p.m., Oceanside Campus
1/27-5/19/14

Offers instruction in critical thinking, critical writing and research, using the genres of literature (poetry, drama, short story and novel).

Hospitality Supervision (HOSP 145) 3 units (#1769)
TH, 5-6:20 p.m., Oceanside Campus + 1.5 hrs. online 
1/30-5/15/14 

Students gain the skills to supervise hospitality employees by mastering effective communications, training, coaching, evaluation, discipline and conflict management. Students learn how the supervisor’s skills, attitudes and abilities impact productivity and change. Students may be required to visit various hospitality sites.

Restaurant Management (HOSP 153) 3 units (#1770) 
W, 5-6:20 p.m., San Elijo Campus + 1.5 hrs. online

Students develop key skills for opening and operating a successful restaurant, including choosing a site and exploring financing and operations strategies. Students may be required to visit various hospitality sites.

Ballroom Dance II (DNCE 143) 1 unit (#3015)
M/W, 7:35-8:40 p.m., Oceanside Campus
1/27-5/19/14

This continued study of ballroom dance principles and performance techniques focuses on intermediate-level American and international ballroom dances, including slow waltz, Viennese waltz, tango, quickstep, jitterbug swing and lindy hop. Students are required to attend a live dance performance.

Dance History (DNCE 101) 3 units (#2297)

This course provides a historical survey of dance in western civilization from antiquity to the present and relates dance to other art forms within various historical periods.
