Meet our Students
Having attended one of the top-ranked universities in the world and now enrolled at one of the country’s leading schools of pharmacy, Michelle Jung knows a thing or two about a quality education. And she speaks highly about MiraCosta College.
While earning a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and cell biology from UC San Diego, Jung decided to take a required English composition course from MiraCosta College. She came away impressed.
“At UC San Diego, you’ll often have hundreds of students in one class, and so a professor cannot give you any personal attention,” she said. “At MiraCosta, it was the opposite. Professor Jose Jara gave me so much help. I came away very impressed in how professors there are so dedicated to their students.”
Jung said the composition course played a pivotal role in her being accepted to her dream school, the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy. “It helped me out so much in preparing my essays on my applications,” she said.
In one application letter to pharmacy school, Jung wrote, “People need professional, committed doctors and effective medications, and they inspire me to forge my career in the pharmaceutical field. I have made it my life goal and responsibility to inspire trust and faith in all my patients, and make real changes in the world.”
Jung’s interest in pharmacology began when she was a high school student in Korea volunteering at a hospital serving low-income foreign laborers. Michelle Jung said she would watch as pharmacists “served the community with warmth, professionalism, and commitment. Most importantly, they devoted time and energy to educating patients to better address their own health needs.”
In a recent email to MiraCosta College Professor Jose Jara, Jung wrote she dreams of “traveling around the world as a successful and warm-hearted professional woman to ensure the better health of people everywhere. I will continue to work and pray even harder to reach the goal and be able to dream of something bigger at that point.
