MiraCosta College Director of Human Resources
Sheri Wright is committed to ensuring that MiraCosta College remains a diverse workplace. As Director of Human Resources since July of 2002, it has been her passion.
“We talk often about student success at MiraCosta College, and we’re guaranteed to be more effective in that vision if we have a more diverse faculty and staff,” Wright said. “When you work and interact with the LGBT or disabled community, for example, you are so much more able to empathize and understand that their challenges and experiences might be different than your own.”
Wright’s efforts recently earned her a Progress in Diversity Award from the Association of California Community College Administrators. The award was created to recognize the outstanding achievements of individuals and organizations in their efforts to expand the concept of diversity in the wider higher education community. In establishing the criteria for this award, the ACCCA looks at both the individual and the institution. It requires not only the initiative of the individual to spearhead any effort toward expanding diversity, but also to see the idea through to fruition.
At MiraCosta College, Wright’s responsibilities include developing a recruitment plan and implementing and coordinating the equal opportunity hiring program. She also chairs the college district’s Equal Employment Opportunity Advisory Committee.
Wright earned a bachelor of arts degree in history and a master’s of education degree in organizational development from UC Davis. The Society of Human Resource Management has certified Wright as a senior professional in human resources, and she is a member of the organization’s San Diego Chapter.
She previously served as Human Resources Director at Callaway Golf. Co. in Carlsbad, as Human Resources Representative at Systech Computer Corp. in San Diego, and as Human Resources Specialist at Progressive Insurance Co. in Anaheim.
Wright says she loves her job at MiraCosta College. “The environment here is a positive and supportive one. I’m proud to be part of an organization that puts so much into its mission and into its employees.”
Wright lives with her family in Carlsbad.
