New Year, New Opportunities at MiraCosta College

Looking for a New Year’s resolution that can make 2018 a year to remember? Look no further than MiraCosta College. Whether you want to get in shape, learn a new skill or save some money on a degree or certificate, we have you covered.

Among the possibilities:

» Get in shape.
MiraCosta College Intramural Sports program includes more than 40 free events each semester ranging from hiking, dodgeball and ultimate Frisbee to open-play volleyball, basketball and flag football. All skill levels are welcome. And that’s just what’s offered from the Oceanside and San Elijo campuses. MiraCosta Continuing Education courses run the gamut from Body Conditioning Over Easy to Chair Yoga for Adults.

» Manage your stress
It’s a jungle out there, which is why MiraCosta College is here to help you unwind. An Adult Horsemanship at Continuing Education provides an excellent opportunity to learn about horses, grooming and riding in a safe, relaxing environment. Other options – and there are dozens – include Tai Chi Chuan for Seniors, Basic Drawing and Sketching and Watercolor Painting on Location.

» Learn a new skill
MiraCosta College offers both short term and full length computer courses that will turn anyone into a techie in no time. If it’s music you like, how about an eight-session Beginning Guitar class? And those are just a couple of examples.

» Spend more time with your friends
The Black Student Union, the Chess Club, Chemistry Club, Gender Sexuality Alliance, Horticulture Club, Parents on Campus, Photography Club and the Veterans Club are a sampling of the groups providing a home to meet with like-minded individuals and build lifelong friendships.

» Master a new language
Learn a foreign language for your next travel excursion or as a way to boost your resume. MiraCosta offers courses in Spanish, Italian, French, German, Japanese and Chinese.

» Earn that college degree and save money along the way
MiraCosta College offers the most affordable option in the nation when it comes to earning a college degree. And students with an associate degree earn, on average, $400,000 more during their working lifetimes than someone with just a high school diploma. Classes cost just $46 per unit and financial aid is plentiful. MiraCosta has something for everyone- high school students can start taking college courses through a free dual-enrollment program. And MiraCosta’s 2+2 degree programs in cooperation with Point Loma Nazarene University enable students to save money while earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration, nursing, child development, or computer information technology without ever having to leave the Oceanside campus.

» Become your own boss
The North San Diego Small Business Development Center (SBDC), located at MiraCosta College’s Technology Career Institute (TCI), provides advisors to assist in answering your business questions along with providing many resources that can help you grow the profitably of your business or even start a new one.
