World renowned musicians, Kronos Quartet, will be performing at MiraCosta College Oceanside Campus Concert Hall on Saturday, March 10 at 7:30 p.m. The Quartet, David Harrington (violin), John Sherba (violin), Hank Dutt (viola), and Sunny Yang (cello) are based out of San Francisco.
“MiraCosta College is proud to present in concert, one of the most celebrated and influential groups of our time, the Kronos Quartet,” said music faculty Christy Coobatis. “We are hopeful that their extraordinary breadth and creativity will serve as examples of the high artistry able to be achieved through dedication, passion and application of pedagogical study.”
For more than 40 years, Kronos Quartet has combined a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to continually reimagine the string quartet experience. Kronos has performed thousands of concerts worldwide, commissioned more than 900 works for string quartet, received a Grammy in addition to more than 40 other awards, collaborated with many of the world's most accomplished composers and performers, and released over 60 recordings.
Tickets for MiraCosta students and staff are $20 and general admission is $25. On Sunday, March 11 at 9 a.m. there is a free and open to the public critique and coaching session of four local string quartets preforming pieces from “Fifty for the Future.” In 2015, Kronos launched Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire, an education and legacy project that is commissioning—and distributing for free—the first learning library of contemporary repertoire for string quartet.
