The MiraCosta College Theatre Department presents a playful new adaptation of Jane Austen's beloved novel, "Sense and Sensibility." The plot follows the lives of the Dashwood sisters as their lives are dramatically changed by the death of their father. The play was written by Kate Hamill, based on Austen's novel, and opens April 26 at the MiraCosta College Theatre, located at 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Tracy Williams will direct.
Set in 18th century England, the play is full of humor, emotional depth and bold theatricality. It examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures. When reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart?
"We are so excited to be working on this story. It is well loved by so many people. I think that we are doing it justice. We have a cast of about 20 students and many more working behind the scenes to bring this book, turned play, to life," said director Tracy Williams. "We are busy working on period style, accent/dialect, and all of those lines! The best part of this project is that we have wonderful, joyful material to work with and a cast that is up to the challenge!"
Play dates are scheduled for April 27, 28, May 3, 4, and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and April 28, 29, May 5, and 6 at 2 p.m. General admission is $16; seniors/staff, $13; students, $11. A preview performance is scheduled for April 26 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the preview performance are $11 for all seats. Children under the age of 5 are not admitted to the theatre.
