MiraCosta College’s Julie Johnson Awarded Administrator of the Year

Julie Johnson, Director of GEAR UP, received an Administrator of the Year award from ACSA (Association of California School Administrators) Region 18 and SDCSBA (San Diego County School Boards Association) at their Annual "Honoring Our Own" Awards Dinner held on Friday, April 20. Johnson was nominated by her peers for her outstanding work as an assistant principal at El Camino High School, not only with the students but as a mentor to staff as well. As director of the GEAR UP grant at MiraCosta College, she is continuing to impact the students of Oceanside Unified School District in a positive manner. 

The GEAR UP program is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. GEAR UP provides six-year grants to states and partnerships to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools.
