MiraCosta College to Hold Humanities Lecture
Author Patrisia Gonzales will be the speaker at a humanities lecture entitled “Red Medicine.” The event will be held Thursday, February 28, 7–8:30 p.m. in the Student Center Aztlan Rooms (Bldg. 3400) at MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Admission is free and open to the public.
Dr. Patrisia Gonzales’ lecture will be based on her recent book, Red Medicine: Traditional Indigenous Rites of Birthing and Healing and will highlight her scholarly interests examining indigeneity from a hemispheric perspective, indigenous communication practices, Mesoamerican symbols and codices as medicinal texts, and indigenous medicine as a parallel system of knowledge that challenges and expands the paradigms of western science.
Her book will be for sale at the lecture.
