Conference title race MiraCosta Women’s were one win shy of winning conference State Playoffs – First Round 0-1 Defeated to top ranked Chaffey College.

11/20/13 Women's Soccer Heads to State Playoffs

After the most successful year in decades, the women's soccer team at MiraCosta College has earned the #10 seed in the southern region of the state playoffs.  The Spartans are led by sophomore Angelina Hix (PCAC MVP), Makaela Thompson, Jasmin Day, Sarah Hinkel, and Marla Calleja (all of whom were voted to the PCAC All-Conference Team).  MiraCosta's first year head coach Miguel Barragan led the team to a 13-3-4 record and was honored with the PCAC Coach of the Year award. 

The Spartans begin their playoff run on Saturday at 2pm at Chaffey College.

11/12/2013 Women's Soccer - MiraCosta vs Mt. San Jacinto Colege Final Score 2-3 (loss)

Heart breaking loss for our Spartans. 2-3 versus a very gritty Mt. San Jacinto College team. Very proud of the Spartans and the heart they showed. Goals from Angelina Hix and Makaela Thompson. Next game this Friday at home vs SD City College 3PM. Go Spartans!!

11/8/2013 Women’s Soccer – MiraCosta vs San Diego Mesa College Final Score 2-0 (win)

Spartans win 2-0 vs SD Mesa, goals from Angelina Hix(2), assists from Makaela Thompson and Brooke Scholl. 11th shutout of the season for gk Sarah Hinkel!!! Please join us for our game on Tuesday 3PM@home versus Mt. San Jacinto, a win would give us the first conference title in the history of our program. Go Spartans!!!

11/5/2013 Women’s Soccer – MiraCosta vs Palomar College Final Score 6-0 (win)

Spartans win 6-0 vs Palomar. Goals from Angelina Hix(3), Makaela Thompson(1), Marla Calleja(1) and Celeste Olide(1). Split shutout by Sarah Hinkel and Emily Williams. Next game Friday at SD Mesa. Go Spartans!!!

10/29/2013 Women’s Soccer – MiraCosta vs Southwestern College Final Score 3-0 (Win)

Spartans win 3-0 at home versus Southwestern, goals from Angelina Hix(2) and Makaela Thompson(1). This is the 8th shutout of year for goalkeeper Sarah Hinkel. Next home game is Friday at 1pm vs Grossmont. Go Spartans!!!

10/22/2013 Women’s Soccer – MiraCosta vs Imperial Valley College Final Score 6-0 (Win)

Spartans win 6-0 versus Imperial Valley, goals from Sandra Morales(2), Angelina Hix(2), Brooke Scholl and Kayla McEldowney.

HISTORIC WIN FOR MIRACOSTA WOMEN'S TEAM (10/19/13)

After a tremendous effort and a 1-0 victory over Miramar College, MiraCosta women's soccer has worked their way to the top of the conference standings.  The win versus the Jets is monumental because Miramar College has won the conference for the last three years and has done so in dominant fashion.  What also is quite impressive is that the Spartan's success comes under the guidance of first year head coach Miguel Barragan.  The Spartans improve their record to 7-2-4 and have seven games remaining in their quest for a conference championship.

Women's soccer is next in action on Tuesday, October 22nd at 1pm against Imperial Valley College.

SPARTANS DOMINATE CROSS-TOWN RIVALS (10/11/13)

The MiraCosta womn's soccer team beat rival Palomar College 3-0. Goals were scored by Katie Koniakowsky, Gabriella Angotti-Jones and Kirsti Vreeman. The shutout was recorded by Gk Sarah Hinkel (5th of year). The Spartans next play on Tuesday at Cuyamaca College.

10/8/2013 Women’s Soccer – MiraCosta vs Mt. San Jacinto College Final Score 0-1 (Loss)

After multiple chances the Spartans failed to score and conceded a goal that gave the home team - Mt. San Jacinto the win. This marks the second defeat of the season, the next game is this Friday at home vs Palomar @4pm. Go Spartans!!!

10/4/2013 Women’s Soccer – MiraCosta College vs Miramar College Final Score 3-3 (Tie)

A battle at Miramar College, 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2 and finally 3-3 final result. Miramar kept themselves in the game scoring all 3 goals on set plays. Spartans struggled to keep the lead but fought hard until the very end. All 3 goals came from our player of the game Angelina Hix. Next game at Mt. San Jacinto on Tuesday. Go Spartan!!!

10/1/2013 Women’s Soccer – MiraCosta College vs Grossmont College Final Score 10-2 (Win)

Great start to conference, the Spartans recorded a 10-2 win versus Grossmont College. Goals from Angelina Hix(5), Makaela Thompson(3), Sandra Morales(1) and Katie Koniakowsky(1). Next game is this Friday at Miramar. Go Spartans!!!

9/27/2013 Women’s Soccer – MiraCosta College vs Chaffey College Final Score 0-2 (Loss)

Spartans battled to stay undefeated with Chaffey College for about 70min until finally conceding a goal. Tough battle ended 0-2,marking the first loss for the Spartans. Conference starts Tuesday with an away game versus Grossmont College. Go Spartans!!!

SPARTANS EARN ANOTHER DRAW (Sept 20th, 2013)

Spartans struggled to score but remained undefeated as they tied Glendale College 0-0. This is the 4th consecutive shutout for GK Sarah Hinkel and the MiraCosta team. Spartans are back on the road to play the last preseason game versus a very tough opponent - Chaffey College this Friday September 27th.

MIRACOSTA STILL UNDEFEATED (Sept 13th, 2013)

After battling for 90 minutes the Spartans were unable to take the lead versus the Gauchos. The Spartans were very organized defensively and earned its third consecutive shutout with Sarah Hinkel in goal. The Spartans travel to Glendale College this Friday, September 20th.

WOMEN'S SOCCER WINS AGAIN (Sept 10th, 2013)

In a very physical away game the Spartans overcame obstacles, stayed composed and battled to bring home the win. A goal from Makaela Thompson, the assist by Sandra Morales and shutout to Sarah Hinkel all led to the win. The Spartans, who improve to 3-0-1, play next at home this Friday September 13 at 2pm versus Saddleback College.

SPARTANS EARN BIG WIN WITH NINE GOALS (Sept 6th, 2013)

It was a great home opener for the Lady Spartans as they defeated West Los Angeles 9-0, with goals from Katie Koniakowsky(1), Angelina Hix(4), Makaela Thompson(1), Sandra Morales(1), Jasmin Day(1) and Kirsti Vreeman(1). Goalkeepers -Sarah Hinkel and Emily Williams both recorded a shutout. The Spartans play at home next Friday, September 13, at 2pm. Come support our women's soccer team against Saddleback College. Go Spartans!

WOMEN'S TEAM STARTS SEASON STRONG

8/30/2013 Women’s Soccer - MiraCosta College vs Citrus College @Sea Breeze Tournament at Oxnard College Final Score 2-2 (Tie)

The first game of the year for the lady Spartans got underway at Oxnard College’s Sea Breeze Tournament, during a very hot Labor Day weekend versus a tough opponent, Citrus College, which had their most successful year in the program’s history in 2012. The Spartans had a strong start to the game leading 2-0 most of the game with goals from Angelina Hix and Brooke Scholl, both goals assisted by Katie Koniakowsky. Unfortunately the Spartans were unable lock down the win and Citrus College was able to steal a tie late in the game, lessoned learned by the Spartans.

8/31/2013 Women’s Soccer  - MiraCosta College vs Victor Valley College @Sea Breeze Tournament at Oxnard College Final Score 7-2 (Win)

After shaking off the nerves from the first game versus Citrus College, the Spartans came out fired up in their second game against Victor Valley, scoring two goals in the first two minutes of the game which led to a 7-2 victory with goals from Makaela Thompson(4), Angelina Hix (2) and Brooke Schooll(1). The next game for the Lady Spartans is the home opener versus West Los Angeles College at 3PM this Friday September 6. Go Spartans!

BARRAGAN HIRED AS NEXT COACH (Jan 1st, 2013)

The MiraCosta athletic department is proud to announce Miguel Barragan as the next head coach for the women's soccer program. Barragan played community college soccer and has coached at MiraCosta College for both the men's and women's team.  MiraCosta athletic director Pat Conahan said this, "Coach Barragan has incredibly strong ties to our community. He coaches in the local Oceanside club, he coaches girls soccer at Oceanside High School, and he is a tremendous coach and educator.  He is going to be a great asset to our department."

MORRETTI EARNS ALL-CONFERENCE (Nov 13th, 2012)

After a standout freshman season, MiraCosta College forward Sage Morretti has been selected to the PCAC all-conference team. Morretti (High Tech High), is an explosive forward who is always a threat to score goals. The MiraCosta athletic department and women's soccer coaching staff would like to congratulate Sage Morretti for the honor.

SPARTANS WINNING STREAK HITS THREE (Oct 17th, 2012)

With wins against Imperial Valley College, Palomar College and Grossmont, the women's soccer team has proven that they keep improving. In the most recent win the Spartans got goals from Nicole Danihels and Sage Morretti.  The Spartans are next in action Friday at Miramar College and Tuesday at home against Southwestern College at 3:00pm.

WOMEN'S SOCCER FALL TO GROSSMONT COLLEGE (Sept 14th, 2012)

After dominating the game for much of the first sixty minutes the Spartans (3-2-1) had a short lapse and gave up two goals in a five minute period.  Although they had numerous chances to score, they couldn't finish the plays which left them with the loss. The women's soccer team in next in action Tuesday Sept 18th at home at 3:15pm.

SPARTANS WIN AGAIN (Sept 12th, 2012)

Behind two goals from Karissa Seaberry and two goals from Elizabeth Rawson, the MiraCosta College women's soccer team defeated conference foe Imperial Valley College 4-1.  The win improves the Spartans record to 3-1-1 and to 1-0 in conference play.  The women's team is next in action on Friday Sept 14th at 3:15pm against Grossmont College.

MORRETTI LEADS MIRACOSTA EARLY IN THE YEAR (Sept 4th, 20012)

Sage Morretti is off to a great start for the Spartans this year with five goals in the first three games. MiraCosta's women' soccer team (2-1) has defeated Irvine Valley College, Sacramento City College and lost a hard fought match to Antelope Valley College.  In the second game of the year against SCC, Moretti had all three goals in a 3-2 victory. 

The women's team is next in action this Friday on the road and will return home on September 14th at 3:15pm.

SPARTANS OPEN SEASON WITH A VICTORY (August 29th, 2012)

The MiraCosta College women's soccer team got the season started with a convincing 2-1 win over the Irvine Valley College Lasers.  The Spartans were led by sophomore Karissa Seaberry who had the first goal and assisted on the game winning goal. Women's soccer is next in action on Sept 1st and 2nd at the Oxnard College Tournament.
