Volunteer Needs: Red Cross Blood Services holds three to six blood drives all across San Diego County, from the border to Temecula, schools, malls, military bases, and local businesses. Registration volunteers are needed to help check in donors. The minimum requirement for volunteers is one blood drive a month. Drives could start as early as 7:00am and end as late as 7:00pm. Bilingual volunteers are always needed especially in the North County. A volunteer application and online background check is required free of charge. Minimum age is 13. Red Cross also has a need for Transportation Specialist: volunteers who deliver the lifesaving blood products to local hospitals. This requires a minimum of one 4-hour shift a month.

Volunteer Needs: Our Operation Bigs program provides mentors to children whose parents are in the military. These children are in need of another adult in their life to provide encouragement and companionship. Volunteers are matched with a Little Brother or Little Sister to meet for one hour, one day a week at the child's school site on Camp Pendleton. During that hour the adult & child will participate in activities such as playing board games, doing arts and crafts or just running around outside playing sports, etc. Volunteers must be 18 years old, able to commit to one year, complete a background check, including DMV, criminal history, sex offender, etc. A $36 application fee is required to complete the background check, fee will be collected at interview.

Everyone a Reader Tutoring Program, Maryland Elementary

Volunteer Needs: Everyone a Reader Tutoring Program at Maryland Elementary School in Vista, California. We welcome volunteers EVERY DAY, during the school day from 8:20-2:15 and in our after school program from 3:30-5:30PM. Community service volunteers have found the tutoring experience mutually fulfilling and have continued beyond their service learning requirement. We invite interested volunteers to visit our program for a brief, “hands-on” orientation by appointment. Our struggling readers in grade 2 and 3 make remarkable progress as they receive tutoring at least 2-3X a week for 15 minutes each. Our tutors usually see 3-4 children per visit and have a commitment of about 1.5 hours per week.

Volunteer Needs: Assistance is needed to help sort, package, and distribute food items. We also are in need of volunteer drivers to help pick up food donations and make home deliveries. Known for our caring and nurturing environment, SVRC has been serving the ever-growing San Diego community in the Jewish tradition since 1944. We use volunteers in a variety of ways. We offer four levels of care; independent, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing.
