Safari Requirements

 

MAC: Download Safari

SURF requires the latest update of Safari. Go to Safari's website and download the most recent and applicable Safari, or you can click the Apple icon located on the menu bar then click Software Update. To check your current version of Safari please do the following:

  1. Launch Safari.
  2. Select Safari.
  3. Select About Safari.
  4. The version number will appear Under the Safari name.

MAC: Enable Cookies and JavaScript

Cookies must be enabled in order to use SURF.

  1. Launch Safari.
  2. Select Safari.
  3. Select Preferences.
  4. Select Security.
  5. To enable Cookies, in the Accept Cookies: section click the Only from sites you navigate to radio button.
  6. To enable JavaScript, in the Web Content: section check mark the Enable JavaScript.

MAC: Clear Cache and Cookies

Cache (Copies of webpages, images, and media that are saved for faster viewing), and Cookies (Files stored on your computer by websites to save preferences such as login information) may contain past data/information which may affect future attempts for successful login. Clearing these files may avoid problems.

  1. Launch Safari.
  2. Select Safari.
  3. To clear Cache select Empty Cache...
  4. Click the Empty button.

  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Security.
  4. To clear Cookies, in the Accept Cookies: section click the Show Cookies button, and then select the Remove All button.
  5. Select the Done button.

MAC: Disable Password Auto-Save

If the auto-complete feature is active in the browser and the SURF password is updated, there may be conflicts which will affect successful login to SURF.

  1. Launch Safari.
  2. Select Safari.
  3. Select Preferences.
  4. Select AutoFill.
  5. Ensure the User names and passwords check box is uncheck. If checked, click the Edit... button and select the Remove All button.
  6. Select the Done button.

MAC: Date & Time Properties

In Order to use SURF, you must ensure that your computer's date and time are correct. If incorrect, you can get an error message stating that your PeopleSoft connection has expired. Please do the following to check your computer's date and time:

  1. Go to the Apple Icon
  2. Select System Preferences.
  3. Select Date & Time tab.

  1. Check the clock on the right hand side and make sure that everything is correct.
  2. Check the date on the left hand side and ensure that the correct date is highlighted.
  3. Select Time Zone tab.

  1. Check the Time Zone and ensure that it says PDT. Click on the map to change the Time Zone.
  2. Check the Closest City and select San Diego - U.S.A.
  3. Close the Date & Time properties window.
  4. Try logging in again.
  5. If this fails, use FireFox browser to login. If you don't have it, click here to download it for free www.firefox.com.

 

MAC: International Computers

If you have an International Computer (a computer that is viewed in your foreign language) you cannot log into SURF. SURF can only function in English. Please set your computer to the English language as listed below.

  1. Launch Safari.
  2. Click on the Safari menu.
  3. Select Preferences.
  4. Select Appearance.
  5. In the Default Encoding: section click the drop down menu and select Western (ISO Latin 1)

International Language Encoding

The MAC System must also be set to English:

  1. Click the Apple icon located on the left top corner.
  2. Select System Preferences...
  3. In the Personal section, double click International
  4. Ensure the English language is listed first on the list.
