Student Password Information

As a student at MiraCosta College (MCC), your login credentials allow access to our online portals such as: SURF, Canvas, Wireless Network Access (Wi-Fi), Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), Virtual Machine/Desktop (VMWare), Lab Printing, and some Library Online Databases (contact the library for more info).

Things to remember about your MCC login credentials

Your password expires every 360 days from the time you set up or reset your password.

Due to security reasons, after five failed attempts, our password system will automatically lock your account.

Your SURF ID (W#######) can not be modified.

Select the respective tutorial to manage your login credentials

Follow these steps ONLY if you are a NEW student at MCC and have NEVER set up your login credentials:

After 24-48 business hours from the time you have submitted your application at the OpenCCC portal, you will receive an email with your SURF ID and a link to set up your password.

  • If the provided link doesn't work, go to MiraCosta College, select A-Z INDEX, select the letter "P", and then select the Account Set Up for NEW Students ONLY link.

At the MCC Account Setup prompt enter your provided SURF ID, and select Set Password

A One Time Passcode (OTP) was sent to your registered preferred email account.

  • Note: Your new OTP is good for 10 minutes only. Enter the OTP on the next screen.
  • For assistance with your email address and/or passcode select the Need help or Resend the OTP? link.


Select Continue

Set up your new password - please follow the password rules.

Select Continue

Your Password Created Successfully screen will display next.

  • A password reset notification email was sent to your registered preferred email account.


To continue select the Click here and proceed to STEP 2 for priority enrollment link

  • Select the SURF link to access your SURF account with your NEW login credentials.

Follow these steps if you have forgotten your SURF ID:

At the home page of MiraCosta College, select A-Z INDEX, select the letter "P", and then select the SURF ID Lookup link.

At the MCC SURF ID Lookup prompt enter your REGISTERED Last Name, First Name, preferred email address, and select Continue.

Note: If the password system failed to authenticate your provided information, contact the Student HelpDesk.

On the next screen your SURF ID will be displayed. Please copy it.

If applicable, select the Click here to set your password link; and on the next screen perform the following steps:

  • To login enter your current password and select Login.
  • To change your current password, select Set Password.
  • If you forgotten your current password, select Forgot Password?

Follow these steps if you need to SET a new password or have FORGOTTEN your current password:

At the home page of MiraCosta College, select A-Z INDEX, select the letter "P", and then select the Manage Student Password link.

Follow these steps to CHANGE your current PASSWORD.

Enter your SURF ID and your current password.

Select Set Password.

Set up your new password - please follow the password rules.

Select Continue

Your Password Successfully Set screen will display next.

Select Continue logging in to display your MiraCosta Portal screen.

  • Select your respective portal to access it.

Follow these steps if you have FORGOTTEN your current password:

Enter your SURF ID and select Forgot Password?

Select Continue

Set up your new password - please follow the password rules.

Select Continue

Your Password Reset Successfully screen will display next.

Select Try to continue logging in to display your MiraCosta Portal screen.

  • Select your respective portal to access it.

Follow these steps to Manage your Password Account Settings.

Select here to login to your MiraCosta Portal screen.

Select the Manage Your Account Settings link.

In the Account Management screen, you may select any link to view and/or addjust your settings.

Your new password must always satisfy the following rules:

  • Must be at least 8 characters long
  • Must have at least 1 lowercase character
  • Must have at least 1 uppercase character
  • Must not contain your username
  • Must not contain your first/last name
  • Must have at least 1 numeric character
  • Must have at least 1 special character e.g. `~!@#$%^&*()_-+=[]{}\|;':",/.>?<
