Testing Alternatives
Alternatives to taking the English Assessment (EA)
- Take your transcript from another college showing successful completion with a grade "C" or better in an equivalent English class to the Admissions and Records Office, (or for matriculation only, to the Testing Office with an Alternatives to Assessment form)
- Take your English placement recommendation from another California community college to the Admissions and Records Office and submit with a Review of Non-MCC Placement Recommendation form, or
- Take the transcript or diploma of your Bachelor's degree to Admissions and Records for English course placement at the 200 level, or
- Substitute qualifying scores from the following approved English tests (submit to the Testing Office, Room 3334) Submit with this form: Alternative Test Review Request
- An Advanced Placement (AP) Program English test with a score of three or higher.
- The International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level English Examination with a score of five or higher.
- California State University System Early Assessment Program (EAP) result stating: "Ready for CSU or participating CCC College-level English courses."
- The California State University system English Placement Test (EPT) with a score of 151 or higher.
- A passing score on the UC Analytical Writing Placement Examination (previously the Subject A examination).
Alternatives to taking the Math Competency Exam (MCE)
- Take your transcript from another college showing successful completion with a grade "C" or better of an equivalent math class to the Admissions and Records Office, or (or for matriculation only, to the Testing Office with an Alternatives to Assessment form)
- Take your math placement recommendation from another California community college to the Admissions and Records Office and submit with a Review of Non-MCC Placement Recommendation form, or
- Take the transcript or diploma of your bachelor’s degree to Admissions and Records for math course placement at the 30 level, or
- Substitute qualifying scores from the following approved math tests (submit to the Testing Office Room 3334) Submit with this form Alternative Test Review Request
- An Advanced Placement Program calculus test with a score of three or higher.
- A College Level Examination Program general or subject examination in mathematics with a score at or above the 50th percentile.
- California State University system Early Assessment Program (EAP) result stating: "Ready for CSU or participating CCC College-Level mathematics courses."
- An Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) test with a qualifying score: Tests prior to March 2002: 550 or higher; tests dated March 2002 and after: 50 or higher.
Note: Classes in other subject areas may also require English and math competencies.
