Students receive academic advisement and assistance in applying to colleges and universities. In addition, they are issued MiraCosta College identification cards which entitle them to the use of the library and to reduced rates for many College activities such as plays, concerts, and guest lectures. The card may also be used to qualify for student rates at local movie theaters and other attractions.

ELI students are invited to join the many different clubs on campus. We have an International Student Club, the second largest club on campus. Students in the club coordinate events for the entire MiraCosta student body, including films, ethnic meals, discussion sessions, and celebration of holidays. ELI students can also participate in intramural sports and activities with other MiraCosta College students. Examples include: soccer, basketball, dodgeball, football, beach volleyball, hiking trips, etc. Every Friday during our English in Action class we go on exciting excursions to places like the movies, the beach, hiking, indoor rock climbing, bowling, the zoo, and historical places around San Diego. ELI students can also participate in Service Learning activities at local nursing homes, shelters, and the Boy's and Girl's Club.

Health Insurance
Health insurance is available for all international students. The cost is $442 for 3 months and our policy provides excellent coverage. If you bring your own insurance it has to meet MiraCosta College district minimum coverage.

The College and the Surrounding Area
MiraCosta College is one of California's comprehensive public two-year community colleges. The College has served the coastal area of North San Diego County for more than fifty years, offering a variety of programs and services to a diverse and changing domestic and international community. The Oceanside Campus of MiraCosta College, located on a scenic 168-acre hilltop, provides a panoramic view of the ocean and the coastal mountains.
The College is only a few minutes from the beach and 35 miles north of the city of San Diego. The area offers easy access to many attractions and activities. Students may enjoy the San Diego Zoo, the Wild Animal Park, Sea World, Tijuana, Mexico, major professional sports events, camping, hiking, plays, concerts, museums, and films. Less than a two-hour drive away are Disneyland, Los Angeles, Hollywood, and Palm Springs. In less than a day you can drive to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, the Hearst Castle at San Simeon, Death Valley National Monument, Yosemite National Park, or San Francisco.
