I am majoring in English and I will be graduating from MCC in fall 2022. I chose to become a writing consultant because I wanted those in my own communities to feel empowered enough to reach out when they need help with writing. Also, writing is one of my biggest passions, along with helping people, so it felt only right that I do something I love while helping fellow students.
Anne, Program Manager
I enjoy seeing students' excitement when they realize they are making solid revisions to their writing and their writing process is working for them. One of my favorite stages of the writing process is reading and doing research; I like learning all I can about a new topic. When I am not in the Writing Center, I am playing with my kids and cooking new recipes. I am also taking Spanish classes; I hope to be a fluent Spanish speaker someday.

I am most looking forward to meeting new people, seeing the different ways in which students write, and hearing their creative ideas. Outside of school, I will watch any medical documentary that catches my attention. I also love listening to music and dancing bachata :)

I love working at the Writing Center because of all of the amazing students I get to help and all of the amazing coworkers I get to work with! I love to hike and go to the beach with my family.
Working as a writing consultant is appealing to me because of my writing journey. I started at entry-level classes such as English 25, 30, 50 and moved on to English 100, 201, and 202. As I completed each class, my writing confidence improved. I understand what it feels like to struggle as a writer. I’ve been there. I want to be there for writers like me who find the task of writing daunting and also for the student who needs someone to look over his or her paper.

I love being a part of the Writing Center Team and MiraCosta College family! I always look forward to meeting and assisting students when they visit us. I am fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. When I'm not working, I like to go to the beach, camping, and hang out with friends and family.
I was born and raised in Oceanside with my familial roots coming from Oaxaca, Mexico. I am a fluent Spanish speaker. I am a first-generation college student who attended MiraCosta College and then transferred to Cal State San Marcos. Working with students from all backgrounds has proven to be immensely rewarding given the unique interactions I have with each individual. I value the act of students sharing their writing with me and allowing us to work together to negotiate writing choices. Outside of the Writing Center, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and watching sunsets.
Denise, Faculty Director
I've run writing centers at four different colleges/universities in three states. I enjoy making the writing process more approachable for students and faculty alike. I'm also a book artist who loves to play with structures of the page as well as on the page.
At the Writing Center, I am looking forward to working with fellow students to ease some of the stress out of the writing process and get to learn new perspectives from others through their writing and ideas. In my spare time, I can be found either watching a film with my dog “Tula” or tangled up in yarn crocheting my newest project.
My pronouns: she/her/hers
I became a Writing Consultant to practice the skills I am cultivating here at MiraCosta College while aiding other students with their own writing. In doing so, I am able to encounter various kinds of inspiring perspectives and voices in their assignments. I love consuming many kinds of art and being able to discuss passions with others!

As a new writing consultant I'm looking forward to meeting fellow students and getting to know my peers a little better. I am grateful to be involved with something that brings the community together and to interact with people in a time where isolation is so common. Outside of school I am a huge book and rpg nerd, I play guitar and sing (badly), and I have been working on my golf swing for the first time in my life.
I love working at the Writing Center, it helped me find my dream career. I am working towards my master's in English so that I can work as a professor here at MiraCosta. Outside of MiraCosta I am an artist, traditional and digital, and I work as a Lyft driver on the side. I'm inspired by Manga, video games, nature, and animals. I am excited to get to know all visitors to the Writing Center and work together to become better writers!

One of the things I love about working in the Writing Center is seeing the transformative process students experience through writing feedback sessions. As writers, I think personal and community-based transformation is something we continue to experience, and I enjoy being part of that process in a collaborative manner. I am a first generation college student, a Spring 2021 MiraCosta graduate attending my first year at UC Irvine as an English major. I enjoy music, making art, and learning new things. I am also a published research author and have presented at eight conferences.

The best part about working in the Writing Center is getting to hear other people’s ideas, since I think ideas are really at the heart of why we write. Outside of work, my favorite things to do are practice Spanish, read psychology books, and run on the treadmill (usually not all at the same time).

I enjoy hearing the different ideas students have. Tackling an assignment with them feels like we are on the same team. I’m kind of into Dungeons and Dragons if you couldn’t tell from the photo.
My favorite thing about working with students is helping them grow into the people they want to become. Whether it’s breaking down an aspect of the writing process, introducing a new perspective, or simply holding space, I do what I do to help students find their voice. When we can communicate, we can connect, and where we connect, there’s community. In my downtime, I’m a creative: writing, drawing, cooking, sewing.

I come to the Writing Center having previously worked as a writing tutor at a community college in Michigan. As both an English major and a writer in my spare time, writing is very near and dear to my heart and I really look forward to sharing my passion for composition with the students of MiraCosta College. It is my goal that I can work with students on any variety of assignments and projects and help them build the confidence that they need in order to do well not only on their assignments but also in all of their education goals.
What I enjoy most about working in the Writing Center is the poetry papers! Regular
papers are also fantastic (please come chat me up about those), but if you come in
with a WIP poetry paper... I will be overjoyed to talk to you about it.
Super fun fact about me-- I have a pug and her name is Bucket (:
I love my Writing Center work because it gives me the opportunity to work with students from any MCC class, and I get inspired by their brilliant ideas. When I’m not at work, I like to dance (ok- sometimes that happens at work too), watch movies or plays, write creative things, and read, particularly Native American lit.
I am so excited to help my fellow students develop their communication skills. I love writing because it brings people together and cultivates empathy. When I am not reading, writing, or working on school, I spend my time camping at the beach or in the mountains.

Being a part of MiraCosta’s Writing Center team has been a wonderful experience. I feel honored to work with students from all walks of life who have the unified goal of enhancing their education. I believe I have learned and grown immeasurably from my time in the Writing Center. It has been a pleasure to feel trusted with the important responsibility of assisting students with their writing. When I am not in the Writing Center, I spend my time with my husband, two college age daughters, and eleven animals, including our newest addition Luna, our mini pig.
Working at the writing center gives me the opportunity to hear students' voices and support them in their writing process. I love to work with students and hear their stories, dreams and future endeavors. I'm excited to be in a space where I can encourage creativity and confidence in one's academic journey.
I look forward to the role as the writing consultant for the Puente students. I understand every student learns differently and the writing process can be challenging, but collaborative discussions can help improve a student's writing skills as well as my own. I speak Spanish and enjoy candle making.

I became a writing consultant because I love to help people, and it’s been an amazing journey so far. It’s been really great getting to meet and work with so many wonderful people in my time here at the Writing Center. I’ve had the opportunity to work with the fantastic students and staff at MiraCosta for three years, and I can’t wait to work with you! I enjoy every stage of the writing process, but my favorite thing to do in the Writing Center is brainstorm with students. I think it’s so cool to see how people begin to develop their ideas and watch them form into a piece of writing. I especially love the back and forth aspect to Brainstorming where I get to have a conversation with a student on a variety of interesting topics, so come by and have a chat!
I’m looking forward to meeting and working with new people at the Writing Center! Every person has their own unique worldview that is reflected in writing and I love to learn about it! I’m also fluent in Farsi and enjoy reading Persian literature.
