The Bias Education Support Team's purpose is to:
- Direct individuals to the proper channels for reporting a bias or hate incident;
- Ensure that appropriate policies, procedures, and protocols are applied;
- Support MiraCosta College’s timely and comprehensive approach to addressing concerns; and
- Engage campus partners and subject matter experts to address the incident;
- Ensure that support resources are available for targeted individuals or groups;
- Support communication with the campus community about incident-related concerns.
The Bias Education Support Team works collaboratively with individuals, departments, committees, and community organizations to foster a climate of openness and inclusion on campus through education and advocacy. This may include training initiatives such as teach-ins, campus speakers, bias awareness programming, panel discussions, community forums, or other educational opportunities.

- Director of Labor Relations & Title IX Coordinator
- Director of Public Information & Governmental Relations, Marketing & Communications
- Program Manager / Director Student Equity
The team calls upon members of the campus community for support and assistance as needed. These members may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Health Services
- Student Equity
- Human Resources
- Campus Police
- Executive Management Team
- President’s Advisory Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (PADEI)
- Diversity, Equity, and Cultural Competence (DEqCC) Committee
- Other faculty and staff who are subject matter experts
Why should I report a bias or hate incident?
MiraCosta College is committed to creating and maintaining an inclusive campus community that stands against bias and hate. The purpose of the reporting system is to provide support and resources to involved parties of bias or hate incidents impacting the campus community. The reporting system allows the college to understand and respond to situations that affect MiraCosta students, to educate and inform the community about such events, and to create awareness of intolerance as it relates to bias or hate incidents.
