Student Services Division Values
As a Student Services Division, we strive, through a lens of social justice, to provide the highest holistic support in order for our students to reach goals beyond their imagination. The spirits of UBUNTU (“I am because we are”) and In Lak’ech (“You are my other me”) provide a foundation for the following values we bring to our daily work.
- Anti-Racist and equity-focused through intentionally and deliberately interrogating, infiltrating, and disrupting power structures and racist systems to impact change that supports our students who have been historically marginalized. Where diverse voices and ideas are not only welcomed but necessary and actively sought out in an effort to be radically inclusive.
- Student-centered where we collaborate, innovate, and transform to remove barriers for our students to empower self-advocacy in every step of their journey. Where we honor the cultural wealth and engage meaningfully with the communities in which we serve and participate.
- Compassionate we practice empathy, kindness, forgiveness, and give grace to our students and each other.
- Outcome-focused through inquiry, reflection and effective problem solving, we strive to do our best in collaboration and teamwork to achieve excellence in supporting our students as they aspire towards their academic and career goals.
Student Services Division Goals
- Increase division-wide competency to confidently uphold trauma-informed spaces that support intercultural, anti-racist and social justice work, and specifically address anti-Blackness and our responsibility as a Hispanic Serving Institution within policies, practices, and culture.
- Through the Guided Pathways and Futures frameworks, redesign, restructure, and realign communication, technology and service delivery across all campuses and modalities.
- Improve awareness, utilization, and impact of student support programs, services, and resources with an intentional focus on increasing successful outcomes amongst our historically minoritized communities.
- Develop a transparent, systematic, and coordinated approach to engaging, hiring, training, supporting and advocating for student leaders.
