Information for STREAM Community Partner Presenters
This year, the 19th Annual MiraCosta College STREAM Festival is taking place alongside The Festival de Música Latina on Sunday, May 5th. The STREAM Festival will run from 12pm-3pm and the Festival de Música Latina continues until 5pm.
During the STREAM Festival, we welcome MiraCosta Students, Staff, Faculty, and local Community Partners to host fun, hands-on STEM, Reading, and Art-related activities to engage the PreK-8th grade community and their loved ones.
Each volunteer presenter will receive a FREE t-shirt, FREE lunch, and students presenters will receive service learning or volunteer credit.
For concerns and questions, contact servicelearning@miracosta.edu or 760-795-6616.
What age should STREAM activities be geared towards?
Plan to prepare and lead a STREAM activity geared towards the PreK-8th grade community. We recommend that you think about using vocabulary and concepts easily understood by kids and their parents. The best activities are those that can be easily duplicated with items that are easily accessible by families, can be duplicated using recycled materials or items easily found at home. Science is not magic--explain the science behind the fun!
Booth Engagement
You can expect 700 kids and their families to visit your booth. You can expect to spend 10-15 minutes per activity, and then encourage them to move to another booth.
I can’t participate in person, are their virtual ways to participate?
Email us at servicelearning@miracosta.edu to inquire about virtual presenter opportunities.
