HSE provides students with additional support to meet learning outcomes in English 100. Students benefit from a small class size that enables individualized instruction and a strong sense of community among learners. In English 52, not only do students learn additional reading and writing strategies, but they also develop student success skills and connect with campus resources. HSE helps students realize their capacity as learners.
Our course theme in English 100 is “Understanding Human Behavior: Why Do We Do What We Do?” We engage that larger theme through units focused on the following topics: Learning, Motivation, Success; Obedience and Conformity; and Implicit Bias.
“Brainology: Transforming Students’ Motivation to Learn” by Carol Dweck, “The Perils of Obedience” by Stanley Milgram, Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People by Mahzarin Banaji and Anthony Greenwald
