2024 Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week
Join us for Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week to learn more about the issues and resources that address hunger and homelessness. Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week occurs Nationwide during November. The events organized by the CARE (Campus Assessment, Resources, & Education) Team from November 18th-23rd in collaboration with many Student Services Departments and off-campus community organizations to focus on advocacy, education, fundraising, resources, and service (More information coming soon!). Student attendees will be entered in multiple opportunity drawings for giftcards supporting basic needs as well as receive free swag and food! Students who attend four or more "opportunity drawing eligible" events will be entered into a grand opportunity drawing for a $100 gift card of their choice or two free monthly bus passes (a $115 value).

Learn” documentary.
Enroll in the Basic Needs Advocate Training to learn more about the impacts of basic needs insecurity amongst community college students on a national, state, and local level and to learn about ways to utilize available on-and off- campus resources to support a student in need.

Come check out our new Student Services building at the Oceanside Campus that houses our Basic Needs Center and Campus Food Pantry. We will be introducing our new punch out card incentivizing utilizing reusable bags when visiting the food pantry and giving tours of space. The first 100 students to visit the food pantry will receive our new CARE swag!

Join us to learn from a Legal Aid Society attorney about education and advocacy tools to know your rights as tenant. The workshop will focus on the eviction process, tenant rights, landlord’s responsibility, and rent increase. Student attendees will be entered into an opportunity drawing.

Watch the "Hungry to Learn" documentary that follows four college students as they navigate their educational experience with basic needs insecurity. Students who watch the documentary and answer the reflection questions here by December 1st will be entered in an opportunity drawing to win a gift card.
The documentary is open to all students, staff, faculty, and administrators at MiraCosta. Here is the access path:

Join the MiraCosta CARE Program and Service Learning & Volunteer Center during a service day in honor of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. This is a great opportunity to learn about an amazing organization doing meaningful work in the community and a great opportunity for students to earn service-learning credit and volunteer hours for scholarships. Student attendees will be entered into an opportunity drawing for a gift card.

CalFresh Application Assistance during the Wellness Festival
Join us during the Wellness Festival in partnership with Health Services on Thursday, April 11th from 11a - 2p to receive CalFresh application assistance from the County of San Diego. San Diego county workers will be on site to help students with their first time application, SAR 7 eligibility report (renewal), case escalation and to answer general eligibility questions about CalFresh.
