History and Heritage Programming celebrate cultures, heritages, and histories to strengthen the MiraCosta College campus through engaging events and activities.
In conjunction with MiraCosta’s mission to serve disproportionately impacted communities and close the equity gap, the district celebrates its Chicanx and Latinx Heritage Series. Chicanx and Latinx Heritage month, also known as Latinx Heritage Month, started as a weeklong celebration in 1968, and has grown to a month from September 15 through October 15 to incorporate the independence days of Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. The month recognizes the legacies and contributions of individuals who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean. Here at the college, in observance of resolution No. 2-22/23, we celebrate the achievements and history of the Chicanx and Latinx community not just during the observed month, but throughout the year.
