Job Description
Under supervision, the student intern will provide assistance to the MiraCosta College Police Department performing a variety of duties to assist office and patrol staff. Areas of assignment may include the MCPD front desk providing customer service and data entry assistance, assisting in the field with both sworn police officers and non-sworn police services officers, and dispatch sit-along. Interns will also assist with campus events organized by MCPD and events in which MCPD has been asked to participate. Interns will also perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma, and must be currently enrolled at MiraCosta College with a desire to work in a law enforcement related field. Coursework completed in Administration of Justice, Sociology, Business Administration, Political Science, or Social Work and Human Services is desired but only one completed course in the student’s declared major is required. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 units of study during the current semester. Those selected for the position without Federal Work Study funding will be required to enroll in ADM 292. Current enrollment status will be confirmed prior to hiring. Due to the limited number of positions available, priority is given to students currently enrolled in the Administration of Justice program with at least 6 units of Administration of Justice classes completed.
Special Requirements
- Successfully complete the application form along with a resume and cover letter.
- Provide unofficial school transcripts.
- Have completed 6 college units with an overall GPA of at least 2.5
- Successfully pass a police background check, which will include Livescan fingerprinting.
- Applicants will be subject to a drug screening.
- Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License at the time of appointment.
- Be eligible to work in the United States.
