The BLOC is a welcoming space where students can connect, recharge, study, build community, and access support. While the BLOC centers the experiences, identies, and success of Black and African diasporic students, all students are welcome.
You do not have to participate in Umoja, A²MEND, or another program to use the BLOC. You do not have to earn access. Come as you are.

Programs and Communities
The BLOC serves as a shared home for programs and communities committed to the academic, cultural, personal, and leadership development of Black students.
Umoja Community
Umoja is a community and critical resource dedicated to enhancing the cultural and
educational experiences of African American and other students. Umoja supports students
through culturally responsive counseling, instruction, mentoring, activities, and
community building.
A²MEND
A²MEND provides culturally affirming support, mentorship, leadership development,
and community for male students of African descent and other students who benefit
from its mission.
Black Student Success
Black Student Success connects students with resources, opportunities, culturally
affirming programs, and individualized support designed to strengthen belonging, persistence,
and educational achievement.
BLOC Community Programming
Community programming includes Village Hour, Sister II Sister, cultural celebrations,
student workshops, leadership opportunities, professional development, and other events
that bring students together throughout the year.

Village Hour
Every Tuesday, August 18–December 8, 2026
The BLOC, Room 34202
Village Hour is a dedicated time for student support, connection, and community building. Students are encouraged to stop by, meet others, ask questions, access resources, or spend time in community.
Students may visit The BLOC and receive support whenever the center is open. Village Hour is an additional opportunity for intentional gathering and engagement.
Sister II Sister
Six sessions during Fall 2026
Aztlan
Sister II Sister creates space for Black women to connect, reflect, grow, and practice collective care. Sessions center belonging, personal development, community, and the experiences of Black women in higher education.
