Clinical case management supports students who are feeling overwhelmed and/or seeking guidance navigating medical services, mental health therapy, health insurance, disability resources, or other community supports. Services are available in person, via Zoom, or by phone to currently enrolled students who are physically in the state of California.
Clinical case managers include a licensed clinician and supervised graduate interns who assess needs, help students develop a plan, connect them with appropriate services, advocate when barriers arise, and provide follow-up support. While not a substitute for mental health counseling, clinical case management can help connect you to services that best meet your needs.

We can help connect students with:
- Crisis assessment and crisis support resources
- Long-term mental health therapy, psychiatry, and psychological evaluations
- Support groups and specialized treatment programs
- Identity-affirming medical, mental health, and community resources (e.g., LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, undocumented/mixed-status, veterans, etc.)
- Health insurance navigation (Medi-Cal, CoveredCA, commercial insurance, international insurance, etc.)
- Substance use treatment and recovery resources
- Disability-related documentation, accommodations, and benefit navigation
- Basic needs support*
Appointments are 50 minutes for up to 6 sessions per semester. Additional sessions may be added when needed to support ongoing resource coordination.

Our Team
Michael Truong (he), MSW, LCSW 128207
Clinical Case Manager
Michael is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker dedicated to helping students navigate
mental health challenges, life transitions, and the systems that support their well-being.
As a second-generation Vietnamese American and first-generation college graduate,
he approaches each interaction with cultural humility, inclusivity, and a profound
respect for every student's unique experiences and strengths. Grounded in mindfulness,
neuroaffirming practice, and trauma-informed care, Michael takes an integrative approach
that combines therapeutic interventions with practical guidance, including crisis
response, care coordination, resource navigation, and connections to campus and community
resources. Before joining MiraCosta College, Michael served as an Emergency Response
Social Worker with San Diego County's Child & Family Well-Being Department, where
he responded to crises, assessed safety, and coordinated services for children and
families. He is passionate about reducing barriers to care and creating collaborative
spaces where students feel supported, empowered, and connected as they work toward
their personal, academic, and mental health goals.
Anahi Martinez Mendez (she/ella)
Clinical Case Manager, under the field instruction of Michael Truong LCSW 128207
Anahi is a first-generation graduate student at California State University San Marcos
(CSUSM), pursuing her Master's in Social Work. She was born and raised in Oceanside
on Luiseño/Payómkawichum land and shared space among the Kuupangaxwichem/Cupeño and
Kumeyaay and Ipai peoples. Anahi attended CSUSM for her undergraduate and received
a B.A. in Child and Adolescent Development and Spanish. Anahi is bilingual (English/Spanish),
and her lived experiences have empowered her to enter the social work field to work
with youth and families impacted by cultural stigma on mental health and work with
Spanish-speaking communities. During her free time, Anahi likes to create art, take
evening walks, and spend time with her younger siblings.
Morgan Yarak (she)

My name is Morgan Yarak, and I am a second-year graduate student pursuing a master's
in social work from California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM) where I also earned
my B.A. In Child and Adolescent Development with a minor in Psychological Science.
I was born in raised in Long Beach, CA and moved to San Diego to pursue my undergraduate
education at CSUSM. I come from a multi-cultural family, where I saw first-hand the
role that intersectionality plays in individual experiences. My goal is to act as
a support for individuals of all backgrounds, through a lens of cultural competence,
humility, and advocacy. I emphasize both client-centered and systems-focused approaches,
in order to work with individuals to navigate experiences in a collaborative and supportive
manner. I am dedicated to creating safe spaces, where warmth, empathy, and understanding
are at the center of engagement. I am so excited to continue to learn and grow with
the MiraCosta Community!
