Students in need of an alternative Testing Site must begin the process at the beginning of the semester or as soon as you know you’ll need alternate/distance proctoring (outside of SD county).
If you need to take a proctored exam for an online or on-ground course and you are located outside of San Diego County, follow the steps below to set up proctoring at an alternative site in your location.
Alternative Test Site Requirements
- The site is a Testing Center or Proctoring Center affiliated with a Community College, University, or Professional Testing Organization.
- If the location is not a University/Community College Testing Center, the test site proctor must be a test administrator, professor, teacher, librarian or administrator who is employed by a community college, university, library, or other organization in your area and can administer the exam on-ground at their location.
- The proctor/test site must be able to meet all the technical requirements for online course exams (Canvas).
- The proctor cannot be a relative of the student, nor live at the same address as the student. A proctor may not be a current student at MiraCosta College.
Steps to Arrange for Alternative (Distance) Proctoring
Step 1
Find a proctoring center near you:
- NCTA Proctoring Network (Proctor location does not need to be NCTA certified.)
- Students can contact local community colleges and universities to check if they offer proctoring services.
- If you are in the military, please contact a Military Education Center that can assist with proctoring services.
- If you do not find an approved Test Site or Proctor that meets minimum requirements in your direct vicinity, please don’t panic. Reach out to us at clctesting@miracosta.edu and we can assist you.
Step 2
- Complete the Alternative Proctoring Site Request Form
- This form must be submitted at the beginning of the semester or as soon as you know you’ll need alternate/distance proctoring (outside of SD county). Exam coordination is not guaranteed for forms received within a week of the exam date.
- Please list all exam dates you will need proctored at the alternative site.
- MiraCosta Testing Center will review the form and contact the requested site to continue the approval process.
Step 3
- Once we have received the necessary information from your requested alternative testing site, MiraCosta will review to ensure it meets our minimum requirements.
- Check your email for confirmation of approval for your proctor request and next steps.
DO NOT WAIT until your exam date to start the approval process!
If you are going to be located outside of the San Diego area for the entire semester,
you are strongly encouraged to have your testing site approved by the second week
of the full semester. Exam coordination is not guaranteed for forms received within a week of the exam date.
